Our Handy Hydro Jetting FAQ

Plumbing and tools lying on drawing for repair.jpg

Hydro jetting–what is it? Why would a homeowner need such a service? Is it only useful for certain kinds of drains or homes? These are the questions we get asked a lot, and we’re here to answer as many of them as we can!

The truth is that hydro jetting is a fairly innovative service that only the most well-equipped plumbing professionals can handle. A hydro jet is a pressurized water spraying device attached at the end of an auger to fit into your drain. It can easily remove the vast majority of drain-clogging material without the use of chemicals or anything else. It’s an amazing service and one that we recommend to all of our customers!

However, in order for you to feel like you’re making a good decision when investing in hydro jetting in Appleton, WI, you’ll need to know more about it. Read on to learn more.

What Is Hydro Jetting?

As we mentioned briefly above, hydro jetting is the process by which a professional plumber uses a high-pressure water spigot to remove any and all clogging materials in a drain. This spigot is attached to an auger so it can fit inside of the drain, and the pressurized water is powerful to remove clogging materials but not break or rupture any of the pipe lining.

Since this process only involves water, it’s natural and will go a long way in preserving your plumbing pipes.

Is Hydro Jetting Expensive?

The answer is no, but it’s a bit more complicated than that.

There is a cost to hiring a professional for hydro jetting, but that cost is usually a lot cheaper than the hours of work it would take to remove a drain with other conventional methods. And, if you use cheap methods like chemical drain cleaning agents, you might end up spending an exorbitant amount of money replacing your pipes after they’ve corroded from the acid.

Can I Hydro Jet My Own Drain?

No, this just isn’t a viable solution.

Hydro jetting equipment is expensive. Unless you own a hundred different homes with different plumbing systems, then you simply won’t get the value from a personal hydro jetting device. This works favorably for plumbers because we work on drains all of the time, so our high-tech hydro jetting system is going to get plenty of use.

Also, plumbers require specific training and licensing to use these systems correctly. Don’t fall into a trap of spending money on a complex system, only to use it incorrectly!

Why Can’t I Just Use Storebought Solutions?

You’ve probably noticed the aisle at the grocery store with all of the “miracle” drain cleaning cures. Well, we’re going to lift the veil on these and tell you what they actually are.

These chemicals are either harsh acids or caustic solutions that will eat away at the lining of your pipes and cause fumes to dissipate in your bathroom or kitchen. They’re destructive, bad for the environment, and unhealthy. Try utilizing a plunger or a drain snake first, if you’re looking for DIY solutions. But don’t be afraid to call for professional help when you need it!
